An electronics systems customer commissioned Spring Manufacturing Corporation to complete the fabrication of a critical flat spring assembly. This assembly would be used in the electronics element of a missile system. Working from a customer supplied blueprint, the unit’s tooling was designed and fabricated, and the spring was precision formed using 1/2 hard ASTM B 194 beryllium copper sized .010 x .100/ .010 x .300. Manufacturing was carried out utilizing our highly developed spring forming manufacturing system and standard forming tools, which lowered initial production costs. The tightest tolerance of ±0.0025″ was held throughout fabrication. An in house atmospheric tempering treatment was applied to produce a clean finish and an ideal plating surface. The spring was ultimately riveted into the assembly. The entire component was inspected for accuracy and integrity according to our quality protocols, and was found to meet all applicable military standards.
The unit featured a tin coated finish, performed by an outside source holding to ASTM B545 standard. Turnaround time for this project was 6 to 7 weeks, producing 100 to 1,500 pieces per order with shipping throughout the United States.
